The Ma'at Experience

At Ma'at, we return to the true essence of Pilates - a practice built on breath, precision, and the mind-body connection.

Our highly qualified instructors bring expertise, attention to detail, and genuine care to every class and client. We know your name, understand how your body moves, and bring the kind of individual attention usually reserved for private sessions to every class. Whether your goal is strength, better posture, injury rehabilitation, or simply feeling more at home in your body, we'll get you there.

Explore your options below.

Ma'at Mastery

A structured and progressive introduction to the Pilates method across all three disciplines.

Over 10 weeks you'll move through Mat, Reformer, and Tower — each one bringing something entirely different to your body and your practice. The Mat builds your foundation and body awareness. The Reformer introduces spring tension and resistance that challenges your strength in ways mat work alone cannot. The Tower — exclusive to Ma'at Studio in Newcastle — adds a dimension of length, stability, and control that ties everything together. What we've found is that progress comes faster and strength builds more completely when all three are woven into your week. They don't compete with each other — they complement each other. And together, they give your body more than any single piece of equipment ever could.

  • Tower

The most underestimated piece of equipment in the Pilates method - and one of the most powerful.

Across 10 weeks, you'll be introduced to the Tower and its unique system of spring-based resistance from above - an experience that challenges your body in ways the mat and Reformer simply cannot replicate. You'll learn how to work with the roll-down bar, the push-through bar, and the spring system to build length, strength, and stability simultaneously.

  • Mat

Across 10 weeks, you'll progressively build strength, body awareness, and confidence as you move through the foundational levels of mat work. Small apparatus is integrated throughout to support and challenge you - from the magic circle to the band - so every session offers something different.

  • Reformer

Across 10 weeks, you'll be introduced to the Reformer in a way that is structured, progressive, and completely beginner-friendly. You'll learn how to work with spring tension - understanding how resistance changes the demand on your body, how to adjust it, and how to use it intentionally to build real strength from the inside out.

Each week builds on the last - refining your technique, deepening your connection to the movement, and developing the confidence to move on the Reformer with precision and control.

Tower

Strength, control, and flow.

These small group classes offer a whole-body experience using the Tower apparatus to refine posture, build strength, and improve mobility through spring-loaded, resistance-based movement.

The Tower integrates the foundational principles of Mat work with the unique advantage of working against gravity, with gravity, and across multiple planes of movement. Creating a deeply intelligent practice that's especially effective for building functional strength, improving posture, and increasing controlled mobility.

The stable bed base supports lying, kneeling, sitting, and standing exercises, while the tower frame offers:

  • Top-loaded and bottom-loaded spring variations
  • Unilateral arm and leg spring work
  • Spring bar and roll-down bar exercises

Adjustable spring resistance provides options to assist or challenge, progressively supporting your unique goals and current capacity. This makes Tower suitable for all levels - from beginners building confidence to advanced practitioners seeking refinement, and from rehabilitation to athletic conditioning.

With intimate class sizes and close instructor guidance, you'll experience fine-tuned, functional movement that creates lasting impact.

"I’ve come back to conditioning my body after having children and the team at Ma’at have made that a really positive, non-intimidating experience. The instructors are clearly knowledgeable and have been able to explain certain movements and body placements in a way that it hadn’t clicked in my mind before.

I love that they offer both mat and reformer classes and have learned different things from each of them. I’ll be continuing to do both!"

"Ma'at Pilates studio has been an absolute game-changer for me. The focus on building strength and balance has improved my physical health, and body awareness.

I've been with Ma'at Pilates for 18 months, primarily in the semi-private classes, the quality of instruction from Pene and her team is outstanding.

What I've loved most is how personalised the sessions are – every instructor has taken the time to understand my body, my goals, and any limitations.

I walked in as a complete novice, and even though I still can't remember the names of the exercises, I've grown stronger and more confident. I can't imagine my week without pilates now.

No matter your experience level, you’ll feel seen, supported, and challenged in all the right ways. The new studio is calm, welcoming and fully exquipped – the perfect space to focus, move, and grow stronger.
